Located around 242 km from Chandigarh, 53 km from Pathankot, and 67 km from Kangra, Bathu Ki Ladi is a stunning cluster of temples submerged in the Pong Dam reservoir for most of the year. They reappear between March and June, revealing their unique architecture and spiritual aura.
History & Legends
Believed to be built in the 8th century by the Hindu Shahi dynasty, the main temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, surrounded by shrines of Kali, Ganesha, and Vishnu on Sheshnag. Folklore links the site to the Pandavas and their “stairway to heaven.”
Best Time to Visit
From March to June, the water recedes, exposing the temples in full. Located in the Pong Dam Bird Sanctuary, it’s also a haven for migratory birds and photographers.
Getting There
The nearest town is Jawali (13 km). In accessible months, boat rides from Dhameta and Nagrota Surian offer a scenic approach to the temple.
